International Ministries Volunteer Opportunities
These mission opportunities are currently being
planned by
the American Baptist Churches of Oregon:
Deborah’s House
The progress made in building this shelter for battered women and children
during 2005 was phenomenal, and Ray and Adaila Schellinger are excited about
what has been achieved so far. They are within $5000 of the money needed for
building materials, and can have Phase One finished this spring if they can just
get a few more work groups there to help. Oregon has played a huge role in
getting this ministry in place, and we are organizing one more trip to finish
what the Lord began! We need your volunteers, and we need help raising the
mission money for materials. Would you consider encouraging your congregation
to raise $100 for the project, and send one volunteer? Contact Chris for more
information.
Katrina Relief
The Katrina disaster created havoc for hundreds of thousands, and will take years to recover from. Recent news reports have indicated that the greatest help in restoration seems to be coming out of the religious community. Praise God! American Baptists in Oregon would like to do our part in this, and are beginning to form what we hope will be several work teams to help restore hope to so many hurting families and churches. Opportunities are being created to join a work team, “adopt a family”, and partner with a local church in the area that is already ministering to folks in need. Please consider forming a team to focus on Hurricane Relief and contact Chris Roush for information on how to partner with other ABCO churches in providing assistance in the area.
Congo trip
Preliminary work is underway to form a mission team to go to the Congo and work with Ed an Miriam Noyes in 2006, 2007 and 2008. The plan is to fly to Kinshasa then take a MAF (Mission Aviation Fellowship) flight to Vanga, then drive a short distance to Lusekele (where the Noyes live.) Part of our time will be working on a project at the Agricultural Center. Other days will be spent visiting villages and learning about Miriam's literacy programs. Contact Chris in the Region office for further information. |
